The flights: USU, not PPS

Coron is on Busuanga Island — a different landing strip from Puerto Princesa. Fly Manila to USU (Francisco B. Reyes). From USU airport, most hotels offer a ₱300/seat shared shuttle to Coron town. Flight block time is ~1h 10m.

Day 1 — The "Island Escapade" tour

Standard full-day tour: Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, CYC Beach, Siete Pecados reef. Tours leave at 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. Count on ₱1,500–₱1,800 including lunch and fees.

Kayangan is the one everyone Instagrams from the famous viewpoint. Get in the queue as early as you can — by 10 a.m. it's a conveyor belt of selfies on that wooden platform. Twin Lagoon has a sliding thermocline (cold freshwater on top, warmer saltwater below) that's genuinely unlike any other swim in the Philippines.

Day 2 — Choose your own adventure

Option A: Reef + Barracuda + Malcapuya (₱1,800)

More beach time, less deep-water commitment. Malcapuya is the sand-dollar beach that usually caps the day — bring sunscreen, it's exposed.

Option B: Wreck diving (₱4,500–₱7,000)

Coron's WWII Japanese wrecks are famous for a reason. Intermediate-level (Irako sits at ~40m, Okikawa at ~26m); open-water certified divers can comfortably do the Okikawa and East Tangat. Most shops run 2- or 3-tank packages with lunch included.

Day 3 — Light morning, afternoon flight

Mt. Tapyas has 721 concrete steps; start at 6 a.m. before the sun breaks over. You'll be down by 8 for breakfast of lugaw at Lolo Nonoy's. Maquinit Hot Springs (₱250) is actually refreshing because it's saltwater-fed and opens onto a mangrove view; two hours there, back to the hotel, and you're at USU for the 3 p.m. departure.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Coron or El Nido?

Coron has better deep-water clarity and the WWII shipwrecks. El Nido has the lagoon photography and the livelier food scene. Fly into Coron first — it's more relaxed — and move to El Nido after if you have a week.

How much is a Kayangan Lake entrance fee?

₱300 as of 2026, typically bundled into your Island Escapade tour. If you're DIY with a private banca, pay at the landing dock.

Is Coron beginner-friendly for diving?

You need Open Water certification for most wrecks. The Okikawa Maru and East Tangat gun boat sit shallow enough for beginners; Irako and Akitsushima are for Advanced or deep-certified divers.

Can I fly direct to Coron from Cebu?

Yes — Cebu Pacific and PAL operate direct CEB → USU on certain days. Check mid-week flights for the lowest fares.

Best month for visiting Coron?

March–May for water clarity and minimum rain; October–November for lowest prices and still-swimmable conditions.
